The President’s Dinner
The birth of the Blackpool Easter Hockey Festival in 1952 was brought about by a small group of hockey enthusiasts and with the help and encouragement of Blackpool Council.
Whilst the indispensable support of the Council has continued over the sixty-six festivals, other groups and individuals have appeared to enable the enlargement and embellishment of what has become a major event in our sport’s calendar and which currently draws around six hundred enthusiasts to Blackpool each year. Blackpool Cricket Club, National Westminster Bank, Kookaburra Sports, John Bosworth Supplies, Silverfx, Awesome Weekends are only examples of concerns that have helped us to mutual advantage.
Following the 2012 Festival a new organising committee took over the running of the Festivals and a number of fresh ideas were introduced for the following year.
One of these was The President’s Dinner which is held on the Wednesday prior to each Festival and which gives us the opportunity to tangibly thank key people. The Mayor of Blackpool is always pleased to attend along with officers and employees from the Council. The President and other officials from the Cricket Club, representatives from the various nightclubs that feature in our programme of evening entertainment, sports vendors and others who enable each festival to be so enjoyable are also amongst our guests.
The Dinners are formal and feature speeches and the presentation of awards such as the Centenary Trophy that is awarded each year to an individual or group that has given sustained help to BHF.
The 2017 Dinner is to be held at The Imperial – a hotel described as opulent and glamorous and favoured by the late Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.
